With the ever increasing horror, devastation, and disregard for human life taking place everywhere on this Earth, it takes no special insight to see that we are coming into the last days of out beautiful planet.

It is this headlong race between nature and man to see which will cause the most devastation that constantly causes terrified people to run in all directions in a desperate search for safety, food, and shelter.

But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
II Timothy 3:1-4

Men’s hearts are growing cold, and self-centeredness has become the sign of the times - just as the Bible has prophesied it would during this particular time in history. Unfortunately, the byproduct of men’s callus and selfish behavior is more and more women everywhere raising children without the support and involvement of the children’s fathers. Or should I say sires? This has become an epidemic that is only going to become worse. These bewildered and stressed-out mothers and their often-underprivileged children are the widows and orphans of our present-day society.

I believe the aforementioned scripture from the book of James was not being addressed to the government social services, but to the Christian community. A woman by herself and raising children needs strong family support. Unfortunately, their families often can not or choose not to provide that vital and necessary support. We live in the richest country in the history of mankind and our tax supported government does much to help the widows and orphans. But they barely scratch the surface and a disproportionate segment of our present generation is growing up in hopelessness, fear, and despair.

As citizens and believers, we are called on to support and help out in many worthwhile areas, all of which are important. But I believe that it was no coincidence that through the author of the book of James, God made it very clear who was to have first priority.

Maranatha Ranch Ministry is now in the planning stage and its purpose is to provide a safe, healthy and loving sanctuary, and a supportive and education-oriented environment for our present day widows and orphans.
