In January 2007, Bryce was diagnosed with a Glioma tumor on his brain. Brain tumors have always been a devastating disease because they are so difficult to treat, much less cure. Doctors were puzzled by the unusual aggressiveness of this tumor and the speed with which it invaded Bryce’s healthy brain tissue. Bryce had to endure many uncomfortable chemotherapy treatments and suffered dramatic medication side effects. It certainly was an incredibly difficult time for Bryce and the rest of his family.

Bryce loved many of the Disney characters and always wanted to meet Mickey. Arrangements were made to have his wish fulfilled. A few short months after being introduced to The Children’s Wish Foundation, Bryce was accompanied by his Mom, Dad and brother, on a Disney Cruise. The trip included three days at sea and four days on land at Disney World.

We also learned that Bryce had a love of Space. Fortunately, in association with his Disney experience, we were able to facilitate a visit to the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida.

Given all that the family has been faced with, they still found time to express their deep appreciation for the efforts of all Children’s Wish Foundation volunteers, fundraisers, stakeholders and staff for making Bryce’s dream a reality come true.

On September 25th, Bryce passed away peacefully at the Alberta Children’s Hospital. His family has had a difficult time putting into words just how important the wish experience was to Bryce; it certainly was something with profound value. Not only did Bryce have his trip of a lifetime, the family was able to share in the many special moments that were created by the wish. These memories will live forever in their hearts and minds.
