It was a long way from the Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh, but Sidney Crosby felt right at home surprising his biggest fan at a hospital in Greenfield Park, Quebec last June.

Karine, a wish child diagnosed with a life-threatening illness, was speechless when she came face-to-face with her favourite hockey player.

Penguin's player Crosby, who arrived incognito, spent over an hour and a half getting to know his fan and her family. He brought official NHL memorabilia to autograph for Karine, including jerseys, cards and stuffed animals. Karine even received a special phone call from Crosby's team-mate Mario Lemieux!

The teen has been following Crosby's career since his days as a junior player. While in the hospital undergoing treatments, Karine had confided to a nurse that her biggest dream would be to meet the legendary athlete. With the help of the Children's Wish Foundation, the nurse and Karine's family were able to make this dream come true.
