Colleen has focused her career energy into two areas about which she is passionate: communications and community investment. In July 2000, Colleen started her own company, Commix Consulting Inc., with a focus to support small to medium sized organizations, profit and nonprofit, in the areas of strategic communication planning and special projects. Colleen is committed to her community and is an active volunteer. Currently she is a Board member of the MD of Rocky View No. 44 Family & Community Support Services Board. She has served in several other board capacities including First Calgary Savings Board of Directors and as Chair of Boys and Girls Club Community Services.

Colleen and her husband Gerard have two children, Jayke (8 years) and Vienne (5 years). Her family loves the water and plans their holidays to include boating, kayaking, water skiing, and scuba diving.
