Equine Canada Announces Martha Birkett as the Official Spokesperson for Horse Week 2008
Ottawa, Ontario-Equine Canada's Recreation Division and the Provincial Equestrian
Federations are thrilled to announce that Martha Birkett is the official the
Spokesperson for Horse Week 2008, taking place May 30-June 8, 2008.
"I love the idea of a week of events devoted to horses. It ties beautifully with my
cross-country ride, Giddy Up for Wishes, where I am raising money for the Children's
Wish Foundation to help dreams come true for health-challenged children," noted
Birkett, who is currently riding from Ottawa to the Calgary stampede as an
awareness-raising fundraiser for Children's Wish Foundation. "One of my main goals
has been to highlight the special, and often therapeutic, relationship that forms
between people and horses. It's my pleasure to join horse-lovers across Canada in a
week that celebrates these wonderful four-legged friends."
Making a donation to Giddy Up for Wishes will help the Children's Wish Foundation
grant wishes to children across Canada who have life-threatening illnesses. Some of
those dollars raised by Martha's journey will be allocated to horse-related wishes.
Giddy Up for Wishes will forward donations to the Children's Wish Foundation chapter
in the province from which they were received. Please visit
