Cinema of the Mind Body Spirit in Motion... on the set of the Cannes Forum Screened Film, "Nelly's Bodega"
Upcoming Event: Charles Plymell, Author Book Signing, 6pm, September 11th
Image Quilt Presents Charles Plymell: Reflections and Book Signing
Charles Plymell will be signing books and reading his poetry from "Some Mothers' Sons", and reading
from a publication in progress. Videos from his international appearances will be shown.
Charles Plymell met members of the Beat Generation in San Francisco early in the 1960's when Allen Ginsberg an
Neal Cassidy (protagonist in Kerouac novels) shared a flat with him. He returned to Kansas for a period when Allen
Ginsberg came to visit him there and told him he was going to buy a farm in upstate New York. While in San Francisco, recruiters from The Johns Hopkins university came to ask Plymell to teach at Hopkins while earning a Masters Degree in the Arts and Sciences. After leaving Baltimore in 1970, Plymell and his family came to Cherry Valley where Ginsberg had a farm, and he bought a house and has lived in Cherry Valley ever since. His last reading was a guest appearance at Spraschaltz Literary Festival in Innsbruck, Austria. Some recent activities can be found at: http://www.vlib.us/beats/
Event takes place at Image Quilt, 1 Main Street
Cherry Valley, NY during Happy Hour, 6pm,
September 11th. Admission Free.
Movie Screening: 8:30pm, Park, next to 1 Main Street, Cherry Valley, Charlie Chaplin in "Modern Times", September 12, Park, next to 1 Main St.
Charlie Chaplin's Film "Modern Times", was his last of the silent era and one of his finest commentaries on technology and the pace of modern life.
This is Charlie Chaplin's last 'silent' film. Charlie turns against modern society (especially the use of sound in films). Charlie is trying to keep up with a production line and tightening bolts. He is selected for an experiment with an automatic feeding machine, but various mishaps leads his boss to believe he has gone mad, and Charlie is sent to a mental hospital.
The film touches on themes Image Quilt will explore in our own upcoming film, "How to Stay Sane in Paris", a bawdy drama about life for a young poet turned jazz singer in modern France.
Release: February 5, 1936
Director: Charlie Chaplin
Cast: Charlie Chaplin, Paulette Goddard,
Henry Bergman, Chester Conklin
