Sword have been around almost 4000 years; since the Egyptians.
Earliest known swords were made from copper but since copper is not hard metal or bronze - an alloy with copper / tin was used to make sword. An even better sword was developed with advent of iron. Bronze Era and Iron Era. Iron swords were still soft which didn't hold there edge well. Finally steel was discovered, which has been the material choice ever since. These weapon have waged war around this world several centuries. During medieval times these weapon likely choice during combat where gladiators relied solely with their durability. Their reliabilty plus gladiator's skills with their sword often determined whether they lived / died. Swords have been passed down through history, they remain as ultimate weapons in our society today.
Swords used for military ceremonies, drills, historical re-enactments, as well as being showcased by collectors.
One could say sword will always be one favorite around this world. Swords used as home décor have natural beauty and attractiveness.
