Finding the Right Hobby for You
Hobbies are a great way to pass the time or provide an escape from your daily routines. Your hobbies need to fit your personality and lifestyle. When selecting a hobby consider the following:
How Much Time Do You Have? - The amount of time you have to commit to your hobby will make a big difference in the hobby you select. Do you want to spend several nights a week on this hobby, just one night or only
on weekends? Finding a hobby that fits your schedule is important. Don't pick something that you don't have time for, it will only create stress. Never let your hobby become a burden.
How Much Will It Cost? - Money is probably one of the most important factors in selecting a hobby. Some activities that you at first think are too expensive may be very affordable. Check around and find out how much
some of the hobbies you are considering actually cost. A hobby doesn't have to be expensive to be enjoyable. For many activities you can rent equipment and try it out first to see if you will enjoy it. Or buy used equipment advertised in your local paper.
Do You Prefer Inside or Outside Activities? - Inside activities have an advantage in that they are not affected by the weather. You can do indoor activities in any weather, during the day or at night. Outdoor
activities are fun too. When you find something you really love, the weather is not as important.
Do you prefer to do activities by yourself or with a group? - Some hobbies are better done on an individual basis - such as painting, needlepoint and sewing. Other activities can be done alone or in groups - such as
hiking, biking and boating.
