What does an envelope addressed to you at your address have to do with building your own business? Yes…if you’ve taken out a loan or used your credit cards to finance your business, you might think of a bill. Or…you might be receiving checks!
Actually your address isn’t about accounting and financial matters.
Look at an envelope addressed to you. Look at that address closer than you’ve ever looked at it. Yes, you’ve probably rattled your address off to hundreds of people and businesses that want to send you something. Again I’ll ask, what does this have to do with building your own business?
Here’s the answer: you are the only one on the planet with that address and your name. If your address is 1345 Main Street in Midland, Michigan and your name is Mary Smith, you are uniquee. Perhaps you have other members of your family with the same address, and maybe a name close to yours (my husband, son, and grandson all have the same name; the uniqueness comes in the Jr., III, and IV placed after their names), but this address and name are only yours.
So you agree with me on this TWIST but wonder what it has to do with your business. You are a unique individual. Because of your uniqueness, you have the ability to create and market products, services, and ideas that no one else has. These might be hidden under so much of the “stuff” that others expect you to do that you can’t see what this uniqueness is.
Here’s one way to peel off the layers and discover what you can offer the world that no one else can: What did you love to do as a kid?
