Ennis House Lantern
An authenticated reproduction of a classic design
In the early 1920's Frank Lloyd Wright lived for a short while in Southern California. During this time he created a system of home construction using what he called "Textile Blocks". These blocks were cast concrete construction blocks, with a patterned exterior surface, and some had perforations to allow light to pass through. Its said the designs were inspired by Mayan temple architecture.
Wright designed and built four homes during this time, all in Southern California, which remain classics of American architecture. He also designed a building called the Community Playhouse that was never constructed.
The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation authorized the reproduction of five patterns from these structures into tabletop, cast stone lanterns. They are shipped with a candle and can be placed indoors or out.
The Ennis house was the largest of the textile houses and was built in 1924. It still stands in the Los Feliz section of Los Angeles.
