Natural Enemies. It is best not to use a wide-spectrum pesticide as it may also kill beneficial insects. Some of these beneficial insects are Damsel bug, Ladybug, Syrphid or Hoverfly, Green Lacewing, Big-eyed bug and Braconid Wasp. Plants that attract beneficial insects are Cosmos, Coreopsis, Candytuft, Sunflowers, Caraway, Coriander, Dill and Yarrow.

Indoor Plant Health. Plants that have dusty leaves cannot breathe and need to be "dusted" or cleaned to keep them healthy. One of the easiest ways is to take the plants outside on a warm day and lightly hose them off or if possible rinse them under a hand held shower in the bathroom. If that is not possible, then dust them with a very soft paint brush or small, soft duster.

Tool Care. Care of tools needs to become a habit, otherwise, even the best tools can become damaged and/or not last as long as they should. Poor care may result in the transfer of harmful bacteria and/or insects to other plants. Rinse off any soil. Dip into a solution of 1 part bleach to 4 parts water or wipe off with bleach wipes between plants and after your gardening day. Sharpen and remove rust if needed. Apply oil. Your tools are now ready to store.

Discourage Ants. Use cayenne pepper to discourage ants by sprinkling on the ant trails and the ants will go elsewhere. Also, sprinkle in areas that you don't want cats and dogs to use as a bathroom area. You need to reapply after a rain or watering.

Protect your knees! Help prevent knee problems from years of working in your garden. Use knee pads that you can wear like the ones carpet layers wear. You may look like a you landed from outer space but your knees will thank you. They provide greater freedom of movement. You don't have to constantly move a kneeling pad.

Tetanus Immunization. A Tetanus shot is needed every 10 years. Tetanus bacteria live in compost and soil. The bacteria can enter a small cut or scratch.
