Robert Hatchell, a native South Carolinian, first discovered St. Simons on a boyhood vacation. Unable to resist the lure of the island, he was drawn back time and again over the years. After serving in the U. S. Marine Corps, Hatchell earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Anthropology at the University of South Carolina. He decided to settle permanently on St. Simons in 1976 to write about the island, and immersed himself in her history, lore and legends. Perceiving that St. Simons' fascinating story was not readily accessible to the ever-increasing number of visitors, Hatchell created The St. Simons Island Experience - an historic tour service. His interpretive narrations reflect Hatchell's love for the area and intense interest in its history. St. Simons is the result of his years of involvement with this very special place.
