Alabaster Corporation bioremediation products consist of a two-part system comprised of specialized microbe blends and microbial advancement cleaning solutions. Here is a listing of each of the products in this system and a brief overview of how they are applied. Of course, every bioremediation project is different. For further details on how these products can be applied to your specific project, you can email us a request for a FREE initial estimate of how our products could be used on your project.
The product information below is written primarily to relate to in-situ soil and gravel remediation but is applicable to groundwater remediation as well. Often, groundwater contamination is the result of soil contaminants leaching into the water table or running-off into surface water. The first step in such a groundwater remediation process is to treat the overlying or adjacent contaminated soil strata. As the treatment materials disperse into the water table, the microbial solution will continue to eliminate the hydrocarbons in the water just as they do in the soil. Even in the soil, the remediation process occurs in a water-based solution, so the process is fundamentally the same in both environments. Of course, the products are also perfectly suited for ex-situ bioremediation, as well. So, if your project calls for the removal of untreated soil or pumping of contaminated water for ex-situ treatment in a soil farm or bio-cell, for example, we can work with you to design a treatment methodology that will apply to this situation.
Alabaster Microbe Blends
The blends of microbes we provide are all natural-harvested micro-organisms, invisible to the naked eye, that have a single food source – hydrocarbons. These microbes have a voracious appetite and seek out their food source to maintain their own survival, much like humans do. In the proper atmosphere, which is created by Alabaster technology, these microbes can live, eat and reproduce themselves for an indefinite length of time or until the food source - the contaminant - is gone. Here is a complete list of our microbe blends and the particular hydrocarbon types they are adapted to breakdown:
STRAIN A: Utilized for natural petroleum products such as Gasoline, Diesel, Motor Oils, Hydraulic Oils, Crude Oils, Sour Crudes, and other complex hydrocarbons and organic chemicals.
STRAIN B: Utilized for Refinery Petrochemical waste such as H2S, Phenol, Chlorinated Hydrocarbons, BTX, Solvents, Amines, etc.
STRAIN D: Utilized for waste such as PCP, Polynuclear Aromatics, Creosote, Heavy Hydrocarbons, etc.
STRAIN F: Utilized for waste such as Extreme Oil & Grease, Lift Stations, Activated Sludge, etc.
STRAIN Z: Utilized as a microbial additive for enhancing microbic activity in cold temperature applications down to 35°F. These microbes should be added to the primary microbe strain used so they comprise 30% of the total microbe content in any cold weather application.
Usage Guidelines
Our microbe blends are distributed in powder form consisting of dormant microbes in a matrix of cellulose. The microbes will revive almost imediately upon contact with water or our Advancement Solutions and will rapidly begin reproduction and consumption of hydrocarbons. The following general guidelines can be used to estimate roughly how much of the microbe material will be required in comparison to the quantities of Advancement Solutions used. (Guidelines for estimating Advancement Solution requirements are offered below).
For light to medium contamination (TPH of 15,000 PPM or less):
2 lbs microbe blend per 55 gallon drum BCC#1
(Approx. 20 grams microbes/gallon)
For heavy contamination (TPH greater than 15,000 PPM):
10 lbs microbe blend per 55 gallon drum BCC#1
(Approx. 100 grams microbes/gallon)
Alabaster Microbial Advancement Solutions
The cleaning and advancement solutions we produce are liquid, multi-surfactant, water-based products containing all the essential nutrients needed to promote the life of the microbes. Even without hydrocarbons, the microbes could live a very healthy existence in our solutions. This is why the liquid part of our technology is so important. Should microbes be subjected to pure oil, for example, they would all die due to lack of water, oxygen and essential nutrients. Our liquid solutions were developed to perform the following functions:
1) Sustain the microbes even in the absence of hydrocarbons
2) Provide essential nutrients in an adverse environment
3) Increase available oxygen content for the microbes
4) Maximize surface area of the hydrocarbons by breaking it down into smaller particles using a water-based emulsifier
5) Wake up the microbes from a dormant state and stimulate them to begin feeding and reproduction through use of a bio-catalyst product
6) Aid the microbes in their movement in finding their food source using a water-based dispersant – important in water remediation since microbes only eat oil at the oil-water interface
7) Provide special enzymes which are used by the microbes to break apart the hydrocarbons for quicker consumption
8) Aid in cleaning interior structures through use of surfactants
9) Disbursement of oils from solids freeing the oils for separation, skimming and recovery.
Our Microbial Advancement Solutions are:
Microbial Commercial Cleaner
Microbial Commercial Cleaner (BCC#1) is formulated for heavy duty cleaning of soil, gravel, concrete, asphalt, or for cleaning and degreasing of heavy equipment. It is designed for use with our microbe blends and will clean and bioremediate the hydrocarbons in place. Microbial Commercial Cleaner (BCC#1) is:
• Biodegradable
• Non-flammable
• Non-toxic
• Non-pathogenic
• Compatible with common delivery systems and equipment.
Usage Guidelines
A general rule of thumb for determining how much undiluted, product will be necessary is to apply the ratio of 10:1 total amount of hydrocarbon material to undiluted product. For example, cleaning up 1,000 gallons of oil would require roughly 100 gallons of BCC#1.
The product ships in a concentrated form that must be diluted in water prior to use. Typical BCC#1 dilution ratio's (Product:Water) are as follows:
Soil and gravel - 1:10
Concrete and asphalt - 1:15
Degreasing - 1:5
For soil remediation projects, the amount of treatment solution to be applied to the contaminated soil varies as a function of the soil type being treated. The following table shows the amount of diluted solution that should be applied per cubic yard of contaminated soil for light (<5,000 PPM), medium (5,000-15,000 PPM) and heavy (>15,000 PPM) contamination levels. For contamination levels greater than 50,000 PPM, contact us for a more specific assessment of the required treatment.

For soil overlaid with gravel or shell – use 25% more than the amount for the soil type under these materials
The solution should be well mixed into the soil. If possible, the soil should be tilled after application of the advancement solution and microbe blend. More than one such treatment may be required to completely remediate the site. Multiple treatments are typically spaced 30 days apart and the soil should be kept well moistened in between treatments. For more specific FREE guidance on dilution ratios, quantities of product to apply, and methods of application, Contact Us. Be prepared to provide info on the TPH of your contaminated soil and an estimate of total volume that needs to be treated.
Nutrient Boosting Formula (Booster)
On a project where especially rapid remediation is required or desired and/or the ambient conditions are not conducive to rapid microbial growth, the supplemental use of this product is recommended. Nutrient Boosting Formula (Booster) is formulated to accelerate microbial production through a special blend of nutrients designed especially for use with Alabaster BCC#1 and microbe blends. When used with BCC#1, Booster will increase microbial activity, thereby hastening the bioremediation process in soil and water. Nutrient Boosting Formula is:
• Biodegradable
• Non-flammable
• Non-toxic
• Non-carcinogenic
• Compatible with common delivery systems and equipment.
Usage Guidelines
Dilute one (1) part Booster to ten (10) parts BCC#1
The product can also be used by itself as a nutrient during the remediation process. Contact Us for FREE guidance on whether Booster might be required for your project.
