Sleeping in a Coleman sleeping bag
after a busy day of camping, hiking, or fishing is something to look forward
to. When the day’s activities have been filled with exciting and memorable
adventures, Coleman sleeping bags will make sleeping at night as refreshing as
those great moments experienced throughout the day.
There’s nothing better than a warm
and comfortable Coleman sleeping bag or mummy bag to crawl into at night as
you begin to savor the beautiful scenery you saw earlier in the day or think
about the great fish stories you’ll have to take back home and share with your
family and friends. When the nights have that crisp, invigorating feeling, and
you hear the sound of an owl hoot, a bull-frog croak, or just the rustling of
the campsite tree-leaves being tossed about by the evening breeze, pulling a
soft Coleman sleeping bag up around your chin is…well, it just makes you want
to go camping!
Of course all Coleman camping
gear, not just their sleeping bags, have that, “call-of-the-wild” essence
about them. The Coleman sleeping bag line answers that call with four
different size categories to provide a better sleeping experience for each
individual camper--depending on their height and build. Coleman has expended
much in the way of research and development, which has lead to their
trademarked ComfortSmart™ technology to make the Coleman sleeping bag as
performance-measured as possible. Coleman sleeping bags have undergone
stringent scientific testing to identify the most accurate temperature ratings
for each sleeping bag. These temperature ratings are based on standards
scientifically determined by the American Society of Testing and Materials.
Along with the personal sleeping bag sizes and scientifically tested
temperature ratings, the ComfortSmart™ technology also influences engineering
features that promote thermal efficiency, durability, and functionality.
Coleman’s ComfortSmart™
engineering has virtually done away with the indubitable
sleeping-bag-zipper-snag with ZipPlow™ and Zipper Glide™ technology. ZipPlow™
zipper tool channels fabric away from the zipper coil to all but eliminate
those annoying zipper snags and Zipper Glide™ tailoring optimizes zipper
movement around the sleeping bag corners by more precisely designed fabric and
material composition where previously, excess material was inherently a
problem. Coleman’s emphasis on sleeping bag performance through ComfortSmart™
technology also includes Fiberlock™ insulation tailoring and ThermoLock™
zipper protection. To diminish cold spots in sleeping bags, Coleman’s
Fiberlock™ design keeps insulation in place, thereby eliminating cold spots
caused by shifting insulation. ThemoLock™ zipper protection creates a barrier
or closed-seam running the length of the zipper track, where—if
unprotected—cold air could seep in.
Coleman sleeping bags are
engineered by meeting the criteria of the following key, design elements:
High-quality insulation and fabrics • FiberLock insulation tailoring •
ThermoLock zipper protection • Sizing
Three types of insulation are
used, depending on the designed performance level of each sleeping bag; all of
which are made of 100% polyester fiber that is non-allergenic, machine
washable, and odorless. Hollow-core fills are DuPont® Hollowfil® 808 and
Coletherm™ insulations, which are used for lower-temp sleeping bags and mummy
bags. Hollow-core fibers allow for an increased R-factor by creating a space
barrier with greater loft and insulating air pockets. The hollow-core fibers
maximize the barrier between the sleeper and the environment to increase
thermal efficiency. ThermoTech® insulation is made of solid-core fibers, and
is ideal for sleeping bags rated for mild conditions and cool, summer nights.
The exterior or sleeping bag cover and the sleeping bag liner are also an
important element for insulation. With the exception of one fleece bag, all
Coleman sleeping bags are lined or covered with either a nylon or cotton
material. Nylon’s durability and water repellency factor and cotton’s
durability and feel give the Coleman sleeping bag comfort and endurance for
extended outdoor use.
Coleman sleeping bags also are
designed with size and comfort in mind. A sleeping bag that is too small is
uncomfortable for the sleeper, while one that is too large looses warmth
factor because the sleeper is unable to generate enough heat to fill the
excess inner area. For this reason, Coleman has four sizes of sleeping bags
which include a Junior size bag for heights up to 4’11”; a full size bag at
75” inches for average adult heights; 77” tall size bags; and a king size bag
that is slightly longer than the tall size and wider than the full size bag.
In addition to the size selections, Coleman sleeping bag designs meet three
temperature ranges in Fahrenheit degrees. Mild temperature bags are rated for
50 to 40 degrees; moderate temperature bags are rated from 40 to 20 degrees;
and extreme temperature bags are rated for +15°F down to a, “chilling” -5°F
(degrees, Fahrenheit.)
Now that you know about all of
these great features that Coleman has built into their sleeping bags, you’re
probably looking forward to trying one out. And since Coleman sleeping bags
come in rectangular and mummy styles, you’ll have your choice between these
and also the sleeping bag size, temperature rating, liner and outer material,
as well as which type of insulation you would prefer. With so many choices, a
Coleman sleeping bag is sure to be the soft, warm, and cozy bag pulled snuggly
against your, “chinny-chin-chin.”
