Why do babies sleep better on a SleepySoft baby sheepskin?
• Because our natural lamb skin hides for baby are shorn to leave just the right length of fibers to give babies extra support and cushioning. The individual wool fibers have a natural 'corkscrew' twist that acts like a super gentle and supportive spring. Babies love their warm and snuggly softness.
I'm allergic to wool, what about my baby's sensitive skin?
• You are allergic to wool, SleepySoft baby's sheepskins are naturally tanned hides - different product! These are naturally sugar cured and sterilized and are the exact same kind of lambskins recommended by Doctors to prevent bedsores. (In fact our Sleepy Soft Deluxe Luxury Lambskin started out as a medical lambskin!)
We live in the south, won't our baby get too hot and sweaty?
• Hard to believe isn't it? These baby lambskins will actually help keep your baby cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter! The reason is that the all natural wool hairs in these baby sheepskins breath, and also absorb excess moisture, (up to 30% by weight!) to help keep baby cool and dry in summer. Those same microscopic pores in the fiber 'insulate' to keep your baby warm and snuggly in winter!
Speaking of size what is the difference in your two lambskins?
• The way the factory described their process to us, when a pallet of the lambskins arrives they are sorted into two piles; smaller and larger. They then package them in two sizes that they call 'baby' and 'medical'. The SleepySoft Luxury Lambskins are approximately 2 feet by 3 feet, and are the 'baby' size. The Deluxe SleepySoft Lambskin, pictured at the top of this page, is packaged as 'medical', and is approximately 20 percent larger. Sizes are very approximate because these sheepskin baby rugs are all natural hides.
How do we clean our SleepySoft Baby Sheepskins?
• Well it really depends on your expectations...how long do you want them to last, and how much trouble do you want to take?There are three ways to wash your SleepySoft lambskins: Spot cleaning, handwash, and machine wash gentle cycle with a lanolin based sheepskin shampoo. Hang to let air dry, and then gently comb with a sheepskin comb.
As these are all natural sheepskin hides, one side is wool and the other leather. Many mothers just throw their sheepskins in the laundry with the rest of the wash...they break down sooner, but still last for a couple of years.
