PetsToothBrush For Pet Dental Care
One of the most important things you can do for your pet's health is to brush your pet's teeth. This will help keep the teeth and gums healthy, as well as help prevent tartar buildup.
Just like in people, routine preventative dental care is critical for proper dental hygiene. This includes regular visits to your vet, including a professional cleaning, and daily brushing. When used as part of this plan, PetsToothBrush can help save your pet from extended periods of pain and unnecessary tooth loss caused by oral disease…not to mention bad breath! Just imaging how your teeth would look and feel if you never brushed!
Besides helping you pet avoid oral discomfort, PetsToothBrush when used as part of a proper dental hygiene plan can even help save on expensive veterinary care needed to treat advanced dental disease.
What is the NUMBER ONE diagnosed health problem for pets? Oral disease!
According to the American Veterinary Dental Society, roughly 80% of dogs and 70% of cats display indications of oral disease by age three! Besides the obvious issues caused by oral disease (bad breath, tooth loss and receding gums), infections caused by oral disease can enter the bloodstream causing potential issues of the heart, kidneys and liver.
Proper dental hygiene is just as important to pets as it is to their owners! As in people, bacteria mixing with food between the teeth and saliva can cause plaque which turns into tartar. To prevent the build up of plaque and tartar, a proper dental hygiene program is required for your pet. Would you go months at a time without brushing your teeth? Neither should your pet!
Most veterinary groups agree that a three step program is your pet’s best protection against oral disease. Not only will the program help keep you pet healthy, in the long run it can save you from unnecessary vet bills.
The three steps include the following and should begin early in the life of your pet:
1. Start with a check up from your veterinarian... who can diagnose any existing problems and a proper course of action.
2. Begin a dental routine of brushing at home. The sooner you begin the routine, the easier it will be accepted by the pet. The routine needs to include brushing of the teeth. Specially formulated food and treats help to remove plaque and clean your pet’s teeth, but they DO NOT replace brushing for the best care. Remember also, that toothpaste made for people should NOT be used in pets. Your vet can recommend proper toothpaste. The ideal program will include daily brushing, but at the least brush you pet’s teeth every 2-3 days as that is the length of time that plaque begins to collect. Remember that brushing in pets is similar to people, it should include above and below the gum line.
3. Have your vet check you pet’s teeth regularly. Proper home care should allow you to go longer lengths between visits. Ask you vet how often you should visit based on your home care program. Remember, as with people, a professional cleaning in regular intervals is the perfect complement to a consistent home care program.
You can help your vet by looking for signs of dental disease, such as bad breath, a change in your pets habits of how it eats and chews, constant pawing at the mouth or the face... and even depression!
