About the Book of Psalms

The Book of Psalms is the largest book in the Bible with 150 chapters called Psalms. The name Psalms comes from the Psalter, the instrument used by David to play them. In Hebrew the book of Psalms is called "Theillim" which means Hymns of Praise. The Book of Psalms is the most used Book of the Old Testament and the New Testament of the Bible uses 116 quotations from the Book of Psalms.

There were many authors of the Psalms including David who wrote Psalms 3-41, 51-57, 86, 101, 103, 108-110, 122, 124, 131, 133. 138-145. Moses wrote Psalm 90, Solomon wrote Psalms 72 and 127, Jeremiah wrote Psalm 137, Zechariah wrote Psalm 147, Asaph wrote Psalms 50 and 73-83, the sons of Korah wrote Psalms 42-49 and 84-87, Heman wrote Psalm 88, Ethan wrote Psalm 89, Haggai wrote Psalm 112 , The 50 remaining Psalms were written by anonymous authors.

The Book of Psalms are of praise, lamentation and petition.
