Music for Erging....
Even if you aren't a rower yourself, you might have heard that rowers spend a lot of time on a device they call an ergometer, which are commonly referred to as "ergs". These are dry-land rowing machines they can use for training at home or in the boathouse. In the past rowers would set up a tape deck or CD player so they could listen to appropriate music while "erging", but since music tastes vary, this was a frequent cause of conflict in the boathouse. So most rowers now have their own personal IPod Nano & MP3 Players & headphones, so they can listen to their own music while rowing. These compact little music storage devices can hold an incredible number of songs in their memory. If your rower doesn't have one yet, they will very excited if you give them one as a gift this holiday season.
If they already have a IPod or MP3 player, you might want to consider giving them an Apple iTunes $25 Music Card , which will allow them to purchase the music they want on-line, and download it directly into their IPod or MP3 player.
Heart-Rate Monitors
A heart-rate monitor is great to help a rower during their workout, it helps them keep at an "aerobic" level according to their workout plan. They strap to the wrist like a watch, and they are not that expensive (some prices begin below $30.00).
