Boats

Built for speed and lying dark and silent
In racks that reach as high as you can see
In a house built down beside the river
Lie and wait in darkness there for me.

Take them out, they're waiting for you.
Take them out and make them go.
They're not going to move without you.
They won't make it to the show.

Shining in the light from small high windows,
Shining hulls cast shadows on the floor.
Silent shapes built sharp to cut the water,
Lay a hold and take them out the door.

Take them out and get them moving.
Hear the water on the skin.
Take them up and down the river.
Move them fast and take them in.

Wash the hulls and leave them as you found them
Lying dark and silent in the rack,
Waiting for me, shining by the river.
Built for speed. They wait and call me back.
