Introduction
Let's face it - there just aren't as many movies about rowing as there are other sports. For that matter, there are a lot more books about rowing than there are movies. Perhaps its is because rowing is more of a "participatory" sport than a "spectator" sport. Rowers would rather be out on the water rather than on a couch, watching someone else row on the television. Besides, rowers tend to be more "readers" than television addicts, perhaps reflecting the higher GPA level of crew teams to the rest of the athletic department of most colleges.

But we have managed to find a few movies about rowing, which we have listed here. Note that we have divided them into two catagories: Instructional and Entertainment.

Description: Masato Harada's film captures the spirit of rowing in a true story of a quest for Olympic gold. Although the rowers' technique is clearly not up to the level of competition depicted in the movie and thereby a bit of a distraction, the film's direction and photography are quite a level above many other rowing films.

They explore human and natural history along the way. The journey ends at Matinicus Rock, a 35-acre island and focus of early environmentalist concern. In 1900, the Audubon Society made Matinicus Rock the first official wildlife refuge in the country, and today some 100,000 seabirds nest here.
