    ONLINE RESOURCES

Family Finder searches Family Tree Maker websites, the Social Security Death Index, and other genealogy websites created by researchers from all over the world!

U.S. GENWEB PROJECT This site is great - it provides links to genealogy web pages all over the country - these sites have query pages, & frequently I get email from other folks who are working on the same lines I am, thanks to the queries! Click on the STATE PAGES to post free queries on county webpages!

GENDEX - This site created by Gene Stark is an "on-the-fly" (updates itself when you click on it!) index to all the genealogy web pages that people have posted online (their own personal research)! Type in the surname you're interested in & go directly to those sites!

GENGATEWAY is another Family Tree Maker website that has links to hundreds of sites - have fun, but do it when you don't have anything else to do!! You'll be all day on these!

Helms' Genealogy Toolbox Sitefinder has lots of instructional articles and helpful links.

GENFORUM - Family Tree Maker's family name websites - Search for a query forum for your family surnames and meet others that are working on that same surname. If you don't find your family, start a new GenForum page! You never know how many cousins you'll locate!

The Gathering of the Clans - Most of the Scottish societies have websites now that you can access here. If you're interested in any Mc names (not all Scots names start with "Mc" either!), lots of the clan sites have links to other genealogy sites that you might find interesting. Click on "Clan Finder" to go to your family's website.

A sister site to the Gathering of the Clans is The Clans of Ireland - Be forewarned - not every Irish name starts with "O'"!

MyFamily.com (sponsored by Ancestral Quest) offers you a free website so you and your kinfolks can put your family info, photos, recipes, etc., on the Internet. It is free & has a surname search engine. This is a great way to share your family photos!

Want to create your own family page on the web? Look here for good ideas, free websites, etc. Cyndi's Genealogy Home Page Construction Kit

Want to find out what other genealogy sites are on the 'net? Start by looking through the 89,000+ sites listed on Cyndi Howell's LIST

The Mormon Church (LDS) has now opened its own genealogy website for you to search their vast collection of information, share your own research, or locate the nearest Family History Center: Latter-Day Saints Family Search

Having trouble deciphering old handwriting? This site may help (practice does too!): from Sabina Murray's Deciphering Handwriting Short Course

This is an animated map showing the progression of population in the U.S. from 1750 onward - it's called a migration map, but it really just shows the creation of counties for all the states. It takes a while to load, but is still pretty nifty, though. animated migrations map
