First Plowing in the Valley
This dynamic painting depicts the activity of the Mormon Pioneers as they prepare the fields for their first crops in the Salt Lake Valley. The covered wagons that were their only homes are shown in the background. Plowing and planting were the first priorities of life. The seeds needed to be in the ground as soon as possible.
Teichert's flowing style captures the movement and energy of the work of the pioneers. She demonstrates the knowledge she gained of farm life in the form and flow of the plowing effort.
