Thank God I Lost My Job! - Thomas Wo.

Thank God, I lost my job! I am happy for loosing my job! Am I nuts?
Absolutely not!
One Wednesday afternoon in September, I was called into the little room next to the Human Resource Department. The V.P. of our business unit and the Human Resource manager were there. They told me the bad news. No, no, the good news!
“Thomas, in my new plan for restructuring the business, there is no place for you.”
My first reaction, just like anybody who lost their job, was shock and resentment. I worked very hard for the company in the last 8 years. I started as a Project Engineer. In that position, I helped the company completed a multi-million project with a major customer. The customer was very satisfied with the support that I gave them. In the following years, I helped the company to establish an effective quality system. As a member of the management team, I continued to promote methods for the business unit to achieve quality improvement. How can they do that to me? Well, well! That feeling left me very soon.
There are many reasons why I should be happy about the incident:
First of all, in the past several years, I have been telling my team, the Quality team of the business unit, our job is to get rid of our jobs. Why shouldn’t I be happy for achieving what I set out to do in the first place?
As a member of the management team, a good portion of my compensation has come from the annual bonus. We normally receive our bonuses in the month of October of each year. This year, even though our business unit was still very profitable, the overall financial performance of the company was not as expected. The company announced that there would be no bonus. We worked hard throughout the year and ended up earning less. In contrast, I got a good severance package. Hey, it was a better bonus than last year! Why shouldn’t I be happy?
Finally, without losing my job, I would not be as committed to follow through with my dream to start my own business. I would not have the time to create the web site to share happiness inspirations. Over the years, I have been dreaming of starting my own business. I have had many good product and service ideas. However, I have been too comfortable, too busy, … in my jobs. Now, the incident of losing my job helped to push me to fulfill my dream. With the little bit of free time, I was able to attend many seminars and workshops that help me to start my business. I am confident that my business will be successful. This will be the key to my financial freedom.
I am truly happy and thankful to God for making this happen for me. God controls the timing of everything and allow those believe in him to benefit from it.
Thank God, I lost my job! I am truly happy about it!
