HOW TO HUG YOUR PHEYLONIAN
BEESWAX CANDLE



 
With a Pheylonian beeswax candle, you never need to 'pour off' the wax or 'dig for the wick'. Always ensure that the wick is properly trimmed to 3/16" or 5 mm before lighting or re-lighting. If the wick has been flattened, stand the wick upright and gently twist the strands so that the wick is upright and meshed together well.

This Temple Lite Candle had been burning for about 1.5 hours. The wick is a good height with a proper size flame. The wicks in these candles never get shorter on their own, allowing you to adjust the wick as needed. This also means that as the wax burns away, the wick gets taller and the flame becomes larger.

The wick on this candle is now too long causing a large flame. If left unattended, it may cause smoke.

One of the best ways to shorten the wick is to push the softened walls into the pool, which actually raises the level of the wax, shortening the length of the wick. This technique also widens the edge of the candle walls, ensuring the pool will not flow over the edge of the candle or leak out any of the crevices in the sculpted walls. Always do this with two hands, gently pushing in with both thumbs, using equal pressure on each side. Fold the edges in gradually, so you are careful not to “swamp” the flame with the pool and extinguish it.

After hugging the candle, the wick is now back to the proper height and the flame has come back to a nice size, which will burn the wax more efficiently. This same procedure should also be done just prior to extinguishing the flame, to bring the pool up and shorten the wick back to it’s proper restarting height.

 
 These candles love to be fed! Another way to adjust the height of the wick is to feed wax from previous candles into the liquid pool. This adds to the pool, which raises the level and shortens the wick.
