Relationships with men
Wherever you look these days, there are a plethora of sources that give advice on relationships with men. Friends, magazines, books, the Internet, radio programs and television talk shows all extrapolate on how to get men, keep men and to finish relationships with men. All of these avenues of advice can be useful, though ultimately the opportunity to have and sustain partnerships largely depends on number of factors.
When meeting a prospective partner, the synchronicity of time and place cannot be underestimated. A woman may be single, yet the man she might meet could currently be in a relationship or just getting out of one. It is safe to say this is a no-go area. A woman could also meet a man at the wrong place while she is traveling, visiting or working at a place and has very little time to develop any kind of relationships with men.
Some of the best advice, though largely unspoken, I have had about having relationships with men has been through my older brothers. From a young age, I watched and learned how women came and went in their lives, and what worked and what ultimately did not. Even when I refer to the past relationships with men that I have had, I harken back to some basic golden rules that I have learned from my brothers.
Firstly, men need the freedom to do their own thing, even if they can't quite articulate it to you. This can come in many forms, such as watching sports or having a drink with their friends. This means that a woman is not invited. To be frank, she will be excluded, and for good reason. Men need time to talk about things amongst their close friends. Rarely this will be about their relationship (unless things are rocky), and probably revolve more around football scores, the recent poker game they just played, or football scores. If a woman wants to understand how to have relationships with men, this is the first thing they must come to terms with. You cannot take the place of a man's friends, and it would be a fatal error to attempt to do so.
Secondly, though a woman might assume her relationships with men bring forth close and unspoken connections, she must remember that no man is telepathic. Not yet anyway. It is a biological fact of life that women are different than men, and scientists are discovering more and more every year how vast the differences can be. Though a woman may feel that it is obvious by her body language, repressed facial animosity and frosty language that she is livid with her partner for failing to pick up his socks, it is not readily apparent to him. Relationships with men have their complexities, but this is not one of them. A woman must spell her feelings out, or suffer chronic disappointment.
And one last piece of advice for women seeking relationships with men: lower your expectations. Don't lower them into the gutter, but get rid of your idealized preconceptions. The more you try to change and create a perfect man, the more you sabotage any potential relationships. Though it may sound cliches, if you want to change your man, then you don't want him you want someone else.
