Plants & plant care
Tropical lilies will may depending on the weather. Your pond need to maintain 72 degrees both day and night before adding tropicals. Add drama and fragrance to the garden at night with these magnificent beauties. Tropical night lilies benefit from at least 6 hours of sun each day. Keep them well fed to encourage the biggest bloom. Plant them in 2 or 4.5 gallon lily containers. Plant them in hole less pots with good black dirt mixed with 1/3 sharp sand or play sand. Make a label to put at the bottom side of the pot so the plant will remain named even if you lose the top tag. Cover the bottom of the pot with soil up to about 2 inches add both a fast acting fertilizer like Highland Rim and a long acting tab like Agritab. You can burn the roots if the roots are touching the tabs. Add another inch of soil. Plant tropical lilies in the center of the pot as the tuber with grow out from the center. Put a light layer of soil on top of the root. Add 3/4 of inch of 3/4 gravel or marble chips to hold the soil in and most importantly to keep your fish from digging in the soil! Start the plant out close to the surface until there is good growth. Then lower them so that there is about 12 inches of water over them.
Keep them feed and groomed to enjoy a summer full of blooms.
Tropical lilies only ship from May to August due to late summer heat. Tropical lilies require special winter care. Please check out our articles page for more pond winterizing tips.
