Lotus are a hardy perennials that may take a year or two to get well established. Should be planted in the center of round hole-less lotus pots. Divide infrequently. Be sure NOT to damage the growing points as they will not grow back when damaged. Roots are tender and grow in circular pattern. Fertilize only after growth appears to avoid burning the roots.
