Don't miss out on our pre-summer Algae control sale. We are Iowa's only direct source of the orginal Water Wych
The Water Wych was created over many years to keep the display ponds of the International Hardy Waterlily Collection free from algae. Since that time we have found other uses for the Water Wych including fountains and animal watering troughs.
The Water Wych is a unique unit that once placed into the pond, fountain or trough absorbs all impurities in the water, these also include the impurites that create green water and algae, so it will clear all green water without harm to fish or other inhabitants. In ponds it will also reduce string algae but when used in conjunction with other filters, the Water Wych will then remove the string algae.
In fountains and troughs the Water Wych will also remove the string algae on its own. As it purifies the water there is no tainting to the water taste, so it is ideal for any animal to drink from.
The Water Wych is ideal for freshwater fish including Koi, Goldfish, and Mosquito fish. The natural good insect life is increased due to the improved water quality so the fish have the benefits of having their natural food. Please note Mosquito larvae need semi-stagnant or stagnant water to survive.
Sizes
There are six different sizes in the Water Wych.
Micro Fountain¹ for small fountains up to 20 gallons.
Fountain¹ for larger fountains up to 150 gallons.
Mini* for ponds up to 840 gallons and troughs up to 400 gallons.
Small* for ponds up to 1800 gallons and troughs up to 900 gallons.
Medium for ponds up to 3600 gallons.
Large for ponds up to 8400 gallons.
¹ Not suitable for troughs as they are rubber coated and horses or cattle could choke on these.
* Please note that trough sizes are half that of ponds due to the influx of constant fresh water.
Keep your Water Wych working effectively by checking your pond pH Level.
The Vinegar Treatment
The vinegar treatment is the most natural and environmentally friendly way of lowering the pH in water. A pond should have neutral water of between pH7 - 7.5. If the hardness of the water is above this it is unhealthy for fish and other pond inhabitants. The Water Wych need the hardness of the water to be below pH8 for it to work at its best.
If you do not notice a vast difference after two weeks of the Water Wych being in the water then follow these instructions for two weeks and then the Water Wych will take over.
Also if you find that once the algae has gone you get a re-growth after a couple of months, it is probably due to weather conditions that have raised the pH of the water. Follow these instructions again for two weeks to again lower the hardness of the water.
You will need:-
A bottle of Vinegar (either white or apple cider is great for troughs)
