12 TIPS FOR BEING THE MASTER OF CEREMONIES
1. Prior to the event, write down or confirm all of the participants in the program.
2. Two days prior to the event contact all of the participants again by email or phone call. Don't wait until the day of your event.
3. Get every person who you will introduce to email or bring you a typewritten introduction.
4. If someone else has created the program, get a copy and study it. If you are creating the program, do it ahead of time and make enough copies for all of the participants.
5. Write a one to two paragraph introduction for yourself to give to the person who will introduce you.
6. Make sure you understand the theme. Develop a two-minute opening thought that coincides with the theme. You will also need some thoughts as transitions between performances.
7. Arrive early and meet with all of the people on the program to give them an overview of the program.
8. Give your introduction to the person who will be introducing you.
9. After you get introduced, give your opening thought and a brief overview of the program.
10. Throughout the program, always introduce the next participant, start applauding and wait for the person to get to the stage.
11. As soon as the performer finishes, return quickly to the micophone, or lectern.
12. Smile, breathe and enjoy being the master of ceremonies!
