The 737, developed in 1967, shared a commonality of design and appearance with the Boeing 727, but its twin jets were wing mounted. The classic 200 series sold 1,114 of the 4,200 plus 737s built or ordered to date. The low capacity combined with good runway performance and service ubiquity attracted many customers and the 200 series was built until 1988.
