The STOL and unpaved runway capabilities of this high-wing commuter airliner have made the de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter popular with arlines and operators which face restrictive environments, to the extent that it has been exported to more than 75 countries worldwide, working in conditions from ice to desert. The Twin Otter, which first flew in 1965, was produced for more than 20 years until 1988, by which time 844 had been built for civil and military customers. Its military customers include the Canadian Air Force (designation CC-138) and the US military (designation V-18 and UV-18).
