Famous as the heavy bomber that brought strategic warfare to the Japanese home islands during the last year of the Pacific war, and above all as the aircraft that carried out the nuclear attacks on Hiroshima (Enola Gay - August 6, 1945) and Nagasaki (Bock's Car - August 9, 1945), the Boeing B-29 Superfortress was the outcome of design studies that started in 1937. The first prototype flew on September 21, 1942.
