Oil Painting Process
Two important elements of design employed in the composition of a painting are
the drawing of the subject matter and the color of the painting.

I prefer a direct painting method when I work with oils. Many times I
fore go a detailed drawing of the paintings composition. Once I begin the
process, I determine how much drawing is necessary to create the composition.
My style varies according to the subject matter. It is not unusual for me to
incorporate incomplete subjects with highly detailed abstractions and realism.
My paintings evolve from large areas of color and shape to the intricacy of
many details incorporated into specific subjects. I mix simple with detail,
intricate with abstract.

I prime my canvases in earth tones or tones that will enhance the
subject matter of the painting. A direct painting method is employed by
drawing with my brush onto the primed canvas surface. The proper use of color
in the painting is essential to create the optical illusion I wish to achieve.
My palette is limited to the primary colors and white. All other colors are
mixed and achieved through the use of these combinations.

Watercolor Process
Two of the most critical aspects of the watercolor process are the amount of
water mixed with the pigments and the rate of absorption of the paper.
Adjusting those basic elements alters the appearance of the final product. The
transparency and opacity of the pigment will determine the essence of the
painting which is created. The possibilities that may be achieved are endless,
making the art of watercolor painting an exciting and ever evolving experience
for me.
