Tips On Buying Jewellery For Yourself & Others
|
Building a Jewellery Wardrobe
Good Jewellery is a long term investment; unlike clothes it is not disposed off after just a season or two. With a little thought over the years we can build up a wardrobe of beautiful gems we will delight in wearing over & over again. Like any wardrobe it is good to begin with the basics, so begin with the items you will wear most of the time - a ring, a pendant or necklace, a pair of earrings or a brooch. You should consider starting with stones that will suit the colours you wear most frequently; then over time expand your horizons. Ask yourself: what coloured stones will best complement the clothes I wear? (Click on Images for further Details.)
Basic Jewellery Wardrobe
Fiery Gems for Dark Colours
If you enjoy wearing wear a lot of black, navy and grey, jazz up your outfits with a fiery red gemstone such as a Ruby, Garnet or hot pink Tourmaline, or bright Blue Topaz? The brilliant colour will be a delightful highlight against the dark hues of your clothing.
Bright Fiery Gem Earrings
Gems for Autumn Tones
Is your wardrobe based mainly on classic earth tones? Liven up your outfits with jewellery of Citrine, Peridot, Garnet, Topaz and Tsavorite. Champane Diamond blends in.
Gems to Enhance Pastels
Do you prefer to wear pastel colours? Enhance the softness of pastels by also wearing soft with Opals, Pearls, Aquamarines, Tourmalines and Topaz. Diamond will match your 'soft look'.

Colourful Gemstones to Contast & Enhance
|
We have considered so far how to match the colour of your jewellery to your clothing. But what else might you consider in deciding on colours to buy & wear? Colour can also help you decide on what type of jewellery is the first priority for your wardrobe.
Gems to Match Your Skin & Hair
Use coloured gems to complement the shade of your skin, and the highlights of your hair. A colourful necklace or earrings can help you do this. For example, do you have golden or red highlights in your hair? Accentuate these with earrings of yellow Sapphire, Rhodolite, Garnet Citrine or even Champane or Cognac Diamonds. A dark brunette might like to wear earrings or a necklace with Black Pearls or Onxz. A blonde might like to emphasis the lightness of her hair & skin tones with White Pearl or Opal or even a pale shade of Aquamarine.
Gems to Enhance Your Eyes
Of course if you have baby blue eyes how would you show them up? Earrings & a pendant set with Blue Topaz would do the job perfectly. Sapphire of course would enhance them nicely. Aquamarine suits some shades of blue, grey & green. Hazel eyes could be matched with Citrine or Peridot or such stones as Tigereye. Very dark eyes can be matched with a deep shade of Amethyst. Cognac or even Black Diamond could be excellent for someone with very dark eyes!
Gemstones to Contrast
We can also use gemstones to contrast the colour of our clothing & of course our eyes & sometimes our skin tones. We can mix colours just like an artist does when painting. (For more information see Gems & Fashion.) Be daring, CONTRAST colours, by for example wearing your Sapphire earrings with a bright red suite or your Citrine ring with your green dress. Enhance your African heritage by wearing a string of White Pearls!
Strong Contrasting Colours
Completing Your Jewellery Collection
After you have bought a basic set of jewellery that you could wear most of the time; eg a sapphire pendant, earrings, bangle, ring & brooch to match your dark blue eyes, you can purchase additional pieces that either match or contrast with what you already own. Perhaps to begin with concentrate on what type of jewellery you wear the most; eg earrings or pendants. Over time, buy contrasting colours in a variety of styles that appeal to you as an individual. With time you will own a variety of highly colourful quality items of jewellery that will not only match your moods, but will to spice up any outfit you own no matter how simply!
These same tips apply to anyone else you ever buy a present for. Now you've got your own gemstone wardrobe sorted out, which friend will you buy for now.............
