A game clock has two clocks side by side; as one clock is stopped the other clock is started, so that the two component clocks are not running simultaneously. Game clocks are generally used in two-player games, where the players take turns with each move. The idea behind the use of the timers is to keep track of the time each player uses for his or her own moves, and to ensure that the players don’t delay the game. The beginning moves are often played rapidly because they are familiar. This allows the players more time for complex moves later in the match makes unusual for a player to vacant the table during a match however the clock continues to run as if it their turn, and/or starts again if the opponent makes a move.
