So who is Saint Frances of Rome? According to the Patron Saint Index, she was remarkable for her humility, obedience and patience. For this reason, in 1925, Pope Pius XI proclaimed her patron of car drivers so that, together with her guardian angel, those driving will be protected by the Lord from all danger.

She was an aristocrat by birth, spent her life and fortune in the service of the sick and the poor, and said to have been guided by a guardian angel, only she could see. The guardian angel went before her lighting the road with a headlight-like lantern keeping her safe in her travels. Saint Frances of Rome had her patience tested by God with respect to her material wealth and he also tested her through long and serious illnesses which she had to undergo. She never exhibited any displeasure when she complied with an order, no matter how foolish. What an appropriate role model to help all of us have more patience as we travel the highway.
