What is a Naturopathic Doctor?

A Naturopathic Doctor (ND) provides holistic treatment to stimulate the body’s own natural healing ability. Naturopathic medicine is effective on its own, or as a complement to conventional medicine.

Focusing on the many factors which cause illness, an ND tries to identify the root of a condition, and provide treatment through a number of gentle techniques.

Prevention is emphasized. As such, lifestyle and nutritional counselling play an important role in the naturopathic visit.

Physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects may all contribute to illness, and treatment is designed to address each one.

Diagnostic and functional testing are available. These include hair, blood, urine, saliva and stool, to identify problems as they are developing. Food allergies can also be tested.

What Can I expect at a Visit?

The initial visit includes an extensive history-taking and a naturopathic physical exam. The patient will begin an individualized program designed to embark on the road to well-being.

Subsequent visits provide more detailed information for assessment and may uncover deeper levels of blockage to be treated.
