How many students are there in one class?
Usually 8 or 9. The maximum class
size is 12.
What nationality are the students?
The study abroad students are
from lots of different countries – Japan, Tahiti, Korea, China, Argentina,
Germany, and Indonesia. But they are all fans of our “english-only” rule. So
they’ll talk to you in English. And if two students are from France, they’ll
talk to each other in English.
Where can I stay
?
Most of our students start off with
homestay. It's a great way to help them to learn the English language. After
they’ve had time to settle in and make a new circle of friends, many of them
join a flatting (apartment) group. But some choose to stay on in homestay.
Who will meet me at the airport?
Either a member of our staff or a
delegated transfer service will meet you at the airport. They will have a big
“lemon” sign with your name on it. Just look for the lemon.
What if I get lost on my first day at
school?
On your first day, your homestay
family will bring you to the school. They may come on the bus with you. If you
are not in homestay, you will have a map that shows you how to find the school
(it’s in the middle of Auckland’s main street, so it’s very easy to find.) And
you’ll have a phone card. If you have any problem, you’ll phone us, and one of
our staff will come to help you find the way.
What will happen on my first day at
school?
You will come to school a little
early with your homestay family. We will give you a warm welcome. You’ll have
a placement test to make sure you are placed in the right English language
class level. We’ll take you on a quick orientation tour. You’ll receive a pack
of orientation materials. Then it will be time to meet your new study abroad
classmates.
