Our Titles
Our title selections cover a wide range
of topics relevent to the study of Byzantine history from
art and religion to literture and political relations with the
Muslim world. We do not believe that a book must be
specifically about Byzantine history in order to be
relevant. The Byzantine Empire, at its height, included
the territory of over a dozen modern states and had
cultural, economic, and political ties with many others.
By spanning the fourth to fifteenth centuries in an ever
changing world, understanding the Byzantine Empire and
the world in which it functioned leaves a wide array of
topics, viewpoints, languages and sheer chronological
time to cover.
We strive to cover topics directly
pertaining to the Byzantine Empire itself, but because
Byzantium did not exist in a vacuum we also choose books
that offer information about topics in neighboring
regions. For example, we carry books on
Islamic architecture and literature because they can be
useful in understanding concurrent trends in those
fields, examining the exchance of ideas between Islam and
Byzantium, or simply to gain a better appreciation of a
broader regional history.
Currently, the majority of our titles are in English, but
we are constantly looking to expand our catalog and add
more selections in a variety of languages.
